The new iPhone lineup after iPhone 16 launch

Following the launch of the iPhone 16 lineup, Apple has now discontinued the iPhone 13, one of the oldest iPhones in their lineup, along with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. This leaves the iPhone SE as the oldest iPhone in the lineup, which is expected to get a refresh in a couple of months.
The iPhone lineup now consists of the following models, each occupying a unique position in the pricing ladder: iPhone SE 3 at $429, iPhone 14 at $599, iPhone 14 Plus at $699, iPhone 15 at $699, iPhone 15 Plus at $799, iPhone 16 at $799, iPhone 16 Plus at $899, iPhone 16 Pro at $999, and iPhone 16 Pro Max at $1199. This now means that the majority of Apple’s iPhone lineup now comes with USB-C. Apple began the transition from Lightning to USB-C towards the end of last year, following EU regulations that required all electronics to share a unified charging connector.
Regarding what to buy, it’s quite straightforward: if you don’t want to wait for the refreshed iPhone SE in about 6 months, get the 14 if you want the cheapest modern iPhone and can’t wait for the SE 4; if you want USB-C on a budget, go for the 15; if you want Apple Intelligence on a budget, choose the 16; and if you want the best of the best, get the 16 Pro.
A top comment by Happy Hippopotamus states: “My 11 Pro Max still meets all my needs and its battery health is at 82%. Although it’s usually time for an upgrade every 5 years, I think I might just get a new battery for my iPhone and see how it goes for another couple of years.”
iPhone SE 4 is expected to launch in Spring 2025, featuring a new design based on the iPhone 14 chassis. It is expected to have USB-C, a 6.1-inch OLED display, and an A18 chip with support for Apple Intelligence.
