PSA: iOS 18.1 beta users: Siri not working for some

Apple is set to release iOS 18.0 to the public next week, but they’ve also been conducting tests with iOS 18.1 beta. This beta is slated for release in October and will come with the initial batch of Apple Intelligence tools. However, it seems that Siri has suddenly ceased to function properly on iPhones and iPads running the latest version of iOS 18.1 beta.

Many beta users on social media have reported and it has been confirmed by macstn that a number of individuals are unable to utilize Siri on their devices running iOS 18.1 beta 3. The first indications of issues with Siri emerged yesterday and it appears to be an ongoing problem.

When users attempt to use Siri, they are greeted with a message stating that “Siri is not available” or “Data to use Siri is downloading” or “Connect to Wi-Fi to complete Siri download.” In the Siri settings, the system indicates that it is attempting to download updated Apple Intelligence models. However, this download never occurs, and as a result, Siri is unusable.

It’s important to note that this bug is not affecting everyone. Nevertheless, those experiencing it are unable to make use of Siri even after rebooting the device. Macs running macOS 15.1 beta seem to be immune to this issue, though.

Most likely, Apple has implemented an update to the language models used by Apple Intelligence, but for some reason, these models have become defective. This could be related to a new build of iOS 18.1 beta that was released for iPhone 16 models on Wednesday.
