Snap announced a lot of significant changes coming to the Snapchat app starting today. There’s a major app redesign underway, along with new AI features, including a lens that shows you what you might look like in your old age.
Redesigned App Consolidates to Three Tabs
Today as part of its Snap Partner Summit event, the future of Snapchat was presented.
A big redesign is coming to Snapchat starting today, and it will roll out globally over time. The new, streamlined Snapchat combines different sections of the app. It reduces the current five tabs to just three.
- At the center is the Camera.
- On the left is Chat.
- And on the right is a ‘For You’ section that resembles a TikTok feed, with Stories and Spotlight videos that can be scrolled through with a downward swipe.
Essentially, there’s a place for content creation and publishing, another for communicating with friends, and the final tab for discovery.
A Terrifying but Fun New AI Lens
This is all great, but the news that really catches my attention is the launch of a fresh AI lens. Available in Snapchat today, users will find an AI lens that gives them a glimpse into what they’ll look like in old age. It’s terrifying, yes. But also incredibly cool. This isn’t the only new AI feature. Snapchat has also added a significant amount of AI to Memories to relive special moments from the past. This feature is similar to the upcoming Apple Intelligence capabilities in the Apple Photos app.
